Overview

The Business Development Manager’s primary responsibility is to promote the company to and secure business with customers and potential customers. Assists in bid development and delivery, customer presentations, as well as overseeing the company’s marketing strategy.


ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS


  • Excellent working with numbers (cost estimating, budgets, schedules, etc.).
  • Understanding of terms and vocabulary for commercial and industrial construction; intermediate to high-intermediate level of technical knowledge of construction.
  • Ability to assess, in general, a prospective company’s operations and their general technical requirements.
  • Work independently, and collaboratively, under pressure, and within acceptable time limits.
  • Effectively communicates, both orally and in writing, with co-workers on all levels, customers, and potential customers.


JOB RESPONSIBILITES


Business Development

  • Maintain contact with local and state economic development organizations/officials. With direction from company ownership, participate in Indiana, Kentucky and regional economic development efforts, committees, and board memberships.
  • Monitor market area for possible building prospects. Actively work towards identifying new leads/prospects, target markets and customer needs. Gather information to determine if prospect’s needs meet FORCE methods and type of work.
  • Successfully cold call to initiate prospective customer contacts.
  • In coordination with other marketing personnel, continue to maintain existing customer relationships. Investigate problems, complaints. Actively work to maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Secure, analyze, and interpret customer information to translate owner requirements into basic parameters for building structure. Follow-up with prospects and projects after completion. Contact decision-maker.

Cost Estimates/Bid Development

  • Establish and update cost estimate summary files, a one-page summary of description and unit costs for all estimated projects.
  • Assist with development of proposals/bids. Collect and clarify prospect scope information to facilitate proposal/bid decision and development. Ensure plans and scope meet with prospect’s requirements.
  • Responsible for pre-qualifying Force with owners for Bid projects and turning in Bids in a timely manner.

Marketing Strategy

  • Recommend and monitor overall marketing budget while working with leadership to develop marketing plan/strategy.
  • Developing and execute presentations to prospects. 
  • Flexible (early morning/evening/weekend hours when necessary) and able to travel extensively in market area. 
  • Identify and recommend marketing techniques and programs.
  • Contribute articles for quarterly Company newsletter.

Advanced knowledge of, and experience with, construction or project management software is preferred. Working, practiced knowledge of heavy-highway construction management, construction sequencing and field conditions. If necessary, investigate the site before bid, identifying items necessary for the bid, including waste area, borrow pits, dump sites, etc. Maintain a multiple-accessed, current database of diverse range of suppliers and subcontractors for various construction-related processes. Oversee, request, and review the entire process of receiving bids from subcontractors and suppliers. Carefully review terms and conditions of subcontractor and supplier quotes. Use estimating software program to prepare accurate, timely, and professional estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Work with Company management personnel to develop risk assessment and pricing/profit strategies for bids. Maintain files of back-up documentation for estimated projects, including current/accurate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors. Assist Marketing and participate in Pre-Bid and Bid Review meetings with owners or owner’s representatives, as required. Assist in conforming to safety, EEO, insurance, and labor relations requirements. Partner with Health, Safety and Environmental personnel to ensure projects follow safe working conditions and practices. Support the achievement of EEO goals. Other duties, as required.
