SUMMARY:

FORCE Construction Co., Inc., located in Columbus, Indiana, is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Project Estimator to join our team. FORCE has been a leader in the construction industry as a self-performing general contractor for over 75 years. This position is responsible for the timely response to requests for bids or proposals on building construction projects and for helping to develop a strategy towards pricing and construction in an effort to secure projects that will contribute to the Company’s growth and profitability.

Essential Job Skills/Qualifications

  • 4-year engineering or construction management degree or equivalent technical training and/or experience and 3 years of commercial and industrial building construction estimating experience.
  • Estimating would be for a self-performing General Contractor. Requires experience with hard-bid and design-build projects and advanced knowledge of/experience with estimating software.
  • Ability to read and interpret proposal specifications and drawings to conceptualize projects, including all sequences and phases, from start to completion, resulting in accurate, professional, and competitive bids to secure profitable work.
  • Ability to do direct-performed and conceptualized cost estimates, budgets, scheduling, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction sequences and field operations.
  • Ability to organize and manage “teams” for projects requiring multi-person estimating efforts
  • Must be self-motivated, have excellent attention to detail, with a strong sense of personal ethics.
  • Maintain and foster a positive Company image with customers, potential customers, subcontractors, and suppliers, while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
  • Must maintain confidentiality with all customer and bid information.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work, required contents, and time constraints of the project to be estimated and, if necessary, investigate site pre-bid.
  2. Help to maintain a multiple-accessed, current database of a diverse range of suppliers and subcontractors for various construction-related processes.
  3. Oversee, request, and carefully review subcontractor and vendor scopes of work and receiving of bids.
  4. Estimates are to be accurate, completed on time, in a professional and competitive manner, keeping in mind risk factors/safety and appropriate construction methods. With the owner’s ultimate outcome in mind, investigate and suggest value engineering and cost-saving options.
  5. Maintain files of backup documentation for estimated projects, including current/ accurate pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  6. Support Project Managers, Supervisors, and other department personnel, as needed, to develop the initial project schedule, budget, and sequence of work, ensuring the successful transfer of bid information.
  7. Other duties, as assigned.

Working Conditions

Physical demands: Some lifting may be required (up to 50lbs), walking, standing, sitting, talking/hearing, keyboarding, writing and reading.

Environmental conditions: Work primarily performed in a controlled indoor environment.
